Review Requests: A Year with the Harrisons

A Year with the Harrisons by [Scheele, Sarah]

Beneath the shade of the pecan tree, the Harrison’s home is welcoming. But you might find there’s more to them than meets the eye.

In a fresh and cheerful story about a very special year, Letty Harrison is the second of three sisters, who live in a lovely white house far in the country. Sweet Luna is just eighteen and will graduate from homeschool soon, but has no set plans for the future–although the new pastor’s wife has plenty of plans for the music ministry where Luna volunteers. Ambitious, secretive Lamia is thirteen and exhibiting a number of inclinations that make her sisters roll their eyes. Slightly accident-prone Letty is trying to manage things after their dictatorial, former pop-star aunt blew in like the north wind and forced her out of homeschool and into a preppy high school. And when it turns out the father of Letty’s handsome new friend has been blackmailing Aunt Brenda for years, it will take a lot of common sense and love for all the Harrisons to get everything sorted out at last.

My Review:

Slight spoilers in my favorite character and warnings.

Genre: Christian fiction.

My Rating: 2 and 1/2 stars.

Recommendation: 16 up. Warnings below . . .

My favorite character is: Pffff, I’m not sure. I was okay with most of the characters but I didn’t like or love them. The closest I came to liking was Toffy and he was barely in the book. But Toffy was kind of sweet.

My Verse for Toffy is Matthew 7:12
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. (King James Version.)

My thoughts: This book was confusing. Like really really super duper confusing at the beginning though it got better along the way and by the end I had enjoyed some parts but this book jumped all over the place with no clear intentions and odd rambling plotlines. And the synopsis doesn’t really explain the book that much.

Warnings: Mentions of drug use, sneaking out to a party, and ummmmmmmmm . . . horrifyingly a guy who is a polygamist and he wanted to marry one of the girls. While these things were barely mentioned and showed as sins I don’t really care for them, AT ALL!

(I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review and I am happy to provide it.)
