Hey! So for the next two months we’re going to have a series of Summer Suspense book reviews! Here’s the first one, I hope you like it!
About: In college, Griffin McCray and his four best friends had their lives planned out. Griffin and Luke Gallagher would join the Baltimore PD. Declan Gray would head to the FBI and Parker Mitchell would go on to graduate school as a crime scene analyst. But then Luke vanished before graduation and their world—and friendships—crumbled.
Now Griffin is a park ranger at Gettysburg, having left life as a SWAT-team sniper when a case went bad. The job is mostly quiet—until the day he captures two relic hunters uncovering skeletal remains near Little Round Top. Griffin just wants the case to go away, but charming forensic anthropologist Finley Scott determines that the body is modern—a young social justice lawyer missing since spring—and all evidence points to the work of an expert sniper. When FBI agent Declan Gray takes over the case, past and present collide. Griffin soon realizes he’ll need to confront some of the darkest days of his life if he—and those he cares about—are going to escape a downward spiral of murder that crosses continents.
Genre: Suspense, mystery, romance, Christian fiction.
My rating: 4 and 1/2 stars.
My recommendation: Eh, this is a hard one. I’m going to go with 15/16 up since this book has some things that I’ll mention in the warnings.
My favorite character/s: Griffin and Finley are
My thoughts: I’ve always liked suspense that has a clear message of the gospel. Dani Pettrey wrote strong and yet not overwhelming spiritual content with a group of people that had a strong bond that broke under pain and tragedy but she didn’t have her characters lose faith as I have seen several times and hate the clichè “come back to God” while that’s good and all it is overwritten. And the ending was so awesome! I loved it and I hope that you’ll try it out!
And can I just say that this is one of the best parts of the book:
“We’re going to intercept them.” Declan’s eyes widened. “And then do what?” Griffin accelerated. “You’re going to have to trust me on this one.” Parker gripped the back of his seat. “Why don’t I like the sound of that?”
Warnings: This is mainly suspense so there is a good bit of harsh content and I can’t say more without giving away what happens but the blurb does mention most of the violent content.
